We are seeking a results-driven Controller with strong real estate and property management accounting experience to lead our accounting team. This position is ideal for a finance professional with 7+ years of progressive experience, including a foundation in public accounting and recent hands-on experience in real estate or property management. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting function, developing and managing a growing team, and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting across a portfolio of properties.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone with the ability to implement process improvements, lead a team, and partner with senior stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting

  • Supervise and develop a team of accountants and accounting staff, ensuring timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings

  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and property-level reporting requirements

  • Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis across multiple properties or entities

  • Oversee accounting for property acquisitions, dispositions, and capital projects

  • Coordinate and manage annual audits, including working with external auditors and preparing audit schedules

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal controls, accounting policies, and industry best practices

  • Implement process improvements and systems enhancements to streamline workflows and support company growth

  • Collaborate closely with property managers, asset managers, and executive leadership to provide financial insight and strategic support

  • Maintain accounting systems and assist in system upgrades or implementations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required or strongly preferred

  • 7+ years of accounting experience, including prior public accounting experience

  • Recent experience in real estate or property management required (residential, commercial, or mixed-use)

  • Proven leadership skills with experience building and managing accounting teams

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and property-level financial reporting

  • Experience with property management accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) preferred

  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple priorities
