Accounts Payable Specialist – Temporary Position (Manhattan, NYC)

A leading luxury goods firm is seeking a Temporary Accounts Payable Specialist to provide coverage while they recruit for a permanent hire. This is an on-site role, 5 days per week in Manhattan.

• Manage full-cycle accounts payable for vendor invoices, including expenses and finished goods purchases
• Match purchase orders to invoices and resolve variances before data entry
• Accurately code invoices to the appropriate GL accounts and cost centers
• Set up payments in banking systems for final release
• Oversee the cash-pooling process and book journal entries accordingly
• Ensure timely payments in alignment with cash flow needs
• Review and reconcile vendor statements, resolving any discrepancies
• Apply all applicable vendor credits and discounts
• Maintain organized vendor files and promptly address vendor inquiries
• Monitor and reconcile AP transactions and aging reports
• Ensure compliance with W-9 requirements and maintain the 1099 vendor listing
• Assist with audit preparations and support as needed
• Participate in month-end close processes for AP
• Perform ad hoc duties as required

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred)
• At least 1 year of accounting experience (retail/fashion apparel industry preferred)
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel & Word (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, HLOOKUPs)
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and interact professionally with vendors and internal teams
